A Lúria Restaurant
Only 30 minutes away from Blue Lake House, “A Lúria” restaurant was opened in 1979 by Francisco Rodrigues. At the time, it was an old tavern that has been transformed into an exquisite restaurant. The name means "Refuge of the Rabbits" and takes us back to the time when this space was still a dark, narrow, and long tavern, just like a burrow. Today, “A Lúria” welcomes its visitors with two large rooms and a café. "A Lúria" offers interesting options, from the region's mushrooms (in season) to the Açorda-de-Sável (shad bread soup).
Specialties: Starters: Cilercas with eggs (and wild mushrooms); Bean Mussels; Octopus Salads; Roe and Broad beans; Sausages; Petingas in the oven. Fish: "Açordas de Sável e de Cherne"; "Polvo no forno com migas"; "Dourada" with "Açorda de migas"; "Lamprey" with rice or "à Bordalesa". Meat: Grilled Lamb with rice and sprouts; "Magusto de carnes with açorda de cilercas"; "Espetada de lombinhos with camarão"; "Posta de vitela à mirandesa"; "Picanha" with black beans and potatoes.
On top of its wonderful menu, the wine selection is also amazing.

Chico Elias Restaurant
At a mere 1/2 hour's distance from Blue Lake House, you'll find the wonderful "Chico Elias". It began as a tavern with tables and wine 70 years ago. Since then, Maria do Céu has taken charge of the kitchen, and her husband lends his name to the house. Everything that arrives at the table—and we're already there—is cooked in a wood-fired oven and, therefore, takes as long as it takes, so a table reservation at Chico Elias must be made at least 24 hours in advance and immediately obliges the customer to choose what is going to be for dinner. Unfortunately, this experience deprives the client of having in hand the photographed menu of the half dozen or so dishes on offer. Without names, references, or prices. Between the rabbit in the pumpkin, the "cacholada," and the roast kid, it's the "bacalhau com carne de porco" (salt cod with pork) that really makes the trip worthwhile. Yes, you've got it right: on the same platter, codfish, pork, and potatoes are baked in the oven and then sprinkled with boiled eggs, all to be eaten at the same time and without any funny business. It all ends in a good local way with the tomar slices. As the portions are familiar, we suggest you bring reinforcements. At the end, what's left over is lovingly packed by Maria do Céu and delivered to take home.
